Sunday Morning
Worship Service
Centered on God, we sing several songs, listen to the reading of Scripture, offer praise and prayer to God, give our offerings to the Lord and sit under the preaching of God's Word.
Music
The music we sing at HBC is a blend of old and new. We enjoy a careful mix of older, doctrinally rich hymns together with newer hymns and choruses. We emphasize congregational singing (which allows everyone to sing praise to God with one voice) more than performed music (which can tend to spotlight individuals and create a spectator/entertainment environment). We view the music ministry of a church as a God-given means of teaching and admonishing one another.
Sermons
Preaching at HBC is primarily expositional--we seek to give the meaning of a particular biblical passage; and we most often are studying passage by passage through a particular book of the Bible. All preaching is Christ-centered and gospel-driven, and sermons usually last between 40 and 50 minutes.
Sunday Evening
At 6:00 p.m. we gather as a church for a family time of singing, testimony, and Bible study. While our morning service is more vertically focused on God in worship, our evening service is more horizontally focused on each other in biblical encouragement. The sermons are geared toward application in the life of the believer and the church body and offer healthy, biblical variety. The service concludes around 7:00 p.m. with a hymn and reflection on what we learned from God’s Word and each other. People often stay after the service to enjoy talking to each other.
Wednesday Evening
Specific group activities distinguish Wednesday night.
- For members and guests, the majority of our "Prayer Meeting" is just that—a time of various aspects of prayer together. We seek to praise the Lord for who He is and what He’s doing in our lives. And we divide up into smaller groups for more specific prayer. We often close our time with a brief study into God's Word. Since many come straight from work or dinner, there is a variety of dress from casual to business.
- Children age 3 through grade 6 enjoy a kids' Bible club during the school year called Truth Trackers. This program is designed to encourage the memory and application of the Bible to young lives.
- Our Youth Group also meets separately on the second and fourth Wednesday nights of each month for more specific Bible study and prayer. With the goal of multi-generational encouragement, the teens gather with the adults for Prayer Meeting on the other Wednesday evenings.
